Abusive Comments

Up to now I have chosen not to delete comments which are offensive or that attack me personally. I don’t think I am an overly defensive person and believe I am open to valid comments and criticism.

By the same token if someone has a personal axe to grind or wishes to be abusive then I am not going to be their whipping block.

In recent weeks I have had several comments (since deleted) that have been abusive and offensive from a person who does not know me personally. I have offered to speak with this person face to face if there really is an issue, but this offer has never been taken up.

Future comments of this nature or from this person will also be either banned or deleted

If you don’t like what you read here then there is a simple solution – don’t read it – or disagree in a tone that engages debate rather than simply being hostile.

Grrrr… Look Out Angry Poms!

Seems Al and Mike have been making the Poms mad while in London!

If – as I have heard – England is much more alt.worshippy than Oz then I can imagine how their stuff would raise a bit of ire.

Si and Johhny

are a bit more embracing and have some good notes / reflections and possibly even MP3s for those who would like hear these two Aussies do their thing.

What is It?

Today Ellie, Sam and I went for a bush bash in the fun-mobile (82 FJ60 Landcruiser).

Just 300m from us is a great stretch of dune and bush and beach that we love to play around in. Sam fell asleep 30 mins into the trip and we had to take him home, but Ellie and I grabbed Winston (labrador) and headed back down for more fun.

What is it about just hanging with a 3 year old girl that is so special and so much fun?

Some of the best moments of my life are spent with my kids, just hanging out, splashing in the water, collecting shells, bouncing over dunes…

Something pretty special about it all!

Blitz Stage I

Recently a neighbour put a post on our local intranet sharing her story of hardship and asking if anyone out there might be able to help her finish her backyard by Christmas time.

She is a single mum with a 14 year old son who has a very serious heart condition – serious enough and scary enough that it prohibits her from working. As a Homewest tenant she is given a house, but only the bare essentials of a backyard.

It seems like a whole bunch of her neighbours have seen it as an oportunity to develop a bit more community spirit by pitching in and helping her out. Mike Russell from our team has been soliciting support from local businesses and I have been communicating and co-ordinating all the people who have offered to help.

So far Mike and others have managed to get:
– lroll on lawn supplied and laid
– retic supplied and installed
– free bobcat work
– free brickpaving from a local guy
– free electrical work
– a stack of chicken kebabs and breast for the party at the end
– a carton of beer
and a few other bits and pieces.

We have some very generous local businesses and neighbours! I think we are all blown away by people’s kindness.

On Saturday Mike, Mark, Darren, Wal and myself laid about 100m of brick paving and started the transformation. It has been great to see the difference the work has made so far and to see the encouragement it is to Jackie, the woman who lives there.

If you’d like to see the ongoing development of the backyard then you can check out Jackie’s photo album here. I reckon it’ll be a great ‘photo story’.

The funny thing is that one of our neighbours has been ringing the media to share the story and possibly bring some good advertising for those kind enough to donate their services – but the bastards don’t want to know.

Doesn’t that make you mad?

Family Frenzy

Today the rellies arrived.

My sister in law, husband and 5 kids are here until Monday. These times used to freak me out – our house suddenly becomes very noisy and very ‘full’.

Over the years I’ve come to enjoy these times and I’ve also seen them as times when God is growing me and teaching me to be less selfish.

Next weekend we head off to Katanning for my father in law’s 60th birthday. Should be a hoot.gone in sixty seconds dvd download

Family First?…

The ‘family first’ crew are certainly doing a big promo for the upcoming election.

My take (from where I sit) is that they are almost all conservative evangelicals who are representing ‘us’.

It has struck me that the phrase ‘family first’ is not one that sits well with me as a Christian. At the risk of sounding pious it would seem that ‘God first’ is more akin to the position a disciple of Jesus should hold.

Family first is so what we hear so often and yet I think its not what we are called to. In fact ‘family worship’ is often the undoing of Christians and churches, as people bend over backwards for their families and sacrifice their discipleship on the altar of family.

I’m not for sacrificing family on the altar of ministry as so often has been the case – but the reverse is not the answer either.

The ‘God first’ party just wouldn’t pull too many votes though would they?…

Your nice middle class people will at least contemplate ‘family first’.free bug s life adownload last action hero dvdrip
