Still Alive

I know…

Its not like me to have 4 days with nothing to say!

But I have actually been working on some other projects and been less focused here. I have been developing a website for Upstream and tinkering with design. I am a fussy bugger when it comes to design so I tend to tinker and play longer than I ought. Still, I like the way it has come out so far.

At this stage there is no content, but you can see the raw design ideas. Its kinda tricky to frame the content in a completely generic way so that folks in the community will understand what we are on about as much as people in the church. I actually enjoy that kind of writing challenge because it forces you to choose language carefully.

Away

Tomorrow I am off for three days to a pastor’s conference where we (Baptist pastors) will join with the Church of Christ guys for a few days.

Danelle was coming, but last week we decided it might be better if she opted out as it’d mean more time away from the kids.

So all will be quiet on the blog for a few days.

Then next week I have three days in Melbourne at the Forge National Leadership Team meeting.

Busy coupla weeks!

Still Hungry…

Last Sunday it was father’s day so we went to my parent’s church where they were having communion.

I began thinking that as Ellie has told us many times she loves Jesus, it seems like the right thing to do to let her take it with us. Obviously Danelle was thinking the same because as they started the distribution of bread and wine, she began explaining to Ellie what it was all about.

She was listening intently and it was a very significant moment to watch my little girl take communion for the first time, knowing that as much as she understands, she ‘loves Jesus’.

I felt proud, excited, just really good about it all.

Until a few seconds later when I heard this little voice say ‘Mum – I’m still hungry’

Gotta love kids hey!?

Spinning Plates or Playing Chicken?

I was talking to a friend the other day when I said ‘I reckon a good metaphor for what I was doing in the established church is that of spinning plates – getting things going and then continually going back to keep the plates spinning.’

The metaphor that came to mind for the emerging missional scene was that of playing chicken – having the nerve to hold your line when you are tempted to bale.

A friend asked ‘so what is that object coming from the other way?’

What would you say?

Give us our fortnightly bread

A few weeks ago Dean from Whitford Church rang to let us know that they would no longer be running the bread distribution service from Quinns Rock and offered us the opportunity to do it out of Brighton.

Peter & Jenny Robins grabbed the initiative and tonight was the first evening that bread was given out to local residents. The bread is all from the local Brumby’s bakery and is fresh but at the end of the day they must get rid of it.

Its a simple but practical way to serve the community and especially those in need.

Bullock revises

There are some interesting posts over at Signposts where Geoff Bullock has had some re-writes of some of his most popular songs posted by Phil & Dan.

The songs look almost the same but have some significant differences in flavour. Its amazing what a few knocks can do for your image of God. Geoff is engaged in the discussion so if you’re a worship music fan head on over for an interesting discussion.
