Ready

I don’t think I have ever been this ready for a holiday!

Today I taught my classes and then finished the day by playing in the staff student basketball game. Wow! I can still feel it.

We lost by 1 point to the students, but what struck me was how much harder it is when you haven’t played for a couple of years. I used to be a decent basketballer. Now…

From there it was off the Merriwa Tavern for a drink before heading to the local youth group to see what they are up to. I have been in touch with them and offered to give them a hand if they need it – not in being there each week, (I think I’d kill someone!) but in ideas, training leaders etc.

When I got home at 6.30 I was a little weary…

Roll on tomorrow – 2 weeks away in the south west of WA and the weather is even looking really good.

I might pen some thoughts while I am away – if I get bored – then again I rarely get bored so might see you in two weeks

Holidays Coming

There is no question that we are in need of a holiday…

Its been nine months of going at it in one way or another with no break. The last 6 months have had me working three different ‘2 day a week’ jobs and discovering that its quite a balancing act.

Some days I get it right and other days I wobble around all over the place.

So on Saturday we head off to Dunsborough for two weeks – surfing, fishing, relaxing and just generally getting away from it all.

Glad it’s over…

I have had one of those ‘don’t want to be a teacher’ weeks.

The kids were pretty good this week – I just didn’t feel like being there. Despite all my prayers for sickness it didn’t come, so I finished up grinding my way thru another 2 days.

One week to go and then its holidays.

I think I am actually just in rather dire need of a break after a long period of time without one and in a very new situation.

All three of my paid roles are requiring a bit more of me at present and staying on top of them all is a bit of a balancing act.

I can see Forge has great potential and is looking set to fly. Brighton is entering a new stage and I know I need to give more time to what we are doing here, and then there’s school… well school just takes 2 days out of the week and a lot of emotional energy.

I’m actually not complaining. I reckon my life is much better than most and I love the variety and the flexibility I have. However the freedom also means a lot hangs on me to get off my butt and ‘make it happen’. On weeks like I have just had where I feel tired and weary it actually creates more stress to have to keep taking initiative.

What I have learnt though is that if you procrastinate you only feel worse – so I tend to force myself to do things that I know need doing.

The Good News is…

that yesterday wasn’t seasickness after all. How embarrassing would that be – to have to sell your boat because you get sick!!

After 9 or 10 bouts of vomitting last night I think I can safely conclude that it was a virus. Seems most people in the street have had it so I guess it was my turn.

I have been asleep most of today recovering. Don’t you have weird dreams when you are sick?!

Looking Ahead

I always read the employment section of the paper – never know what might pop up!

Turns out these guys

mask of the ninja dvd

are looking for teachers….

I reckon it could be an interesting experience. A friend who is also a qualified Baptist minister taught there for a while and reckoned he had more conversations over lunch about issues of faith than he ever had at the Christian school he is now at.

Absolute Inspiration

A few years back Australian Story ran an episode entitled ‘Champion of the World’ about this man

nite tales the movie movie . It was one of the most inspiring stories I have ever seen.

Next week Tony Campolo comes to Perth for a dinner and to speak for his organisation. Danelle and I are going along with a few friends.

The last time I heard Campolo I was front row at the Youth Specialties NYC in San Diego. Fortunately I was out of spitting range!

Sold…

Thanks to E-Bay my old boat is now the property of a bloke from England. His son in law lives over here and will be picking it up.

My ad makes no bones at all about the issues with the boat so after all the angst of ‘what to do’ I feel pretty good about having sold it.

At the end of the day I have lost some money – learnt a lesson and done the right thing by the next bloke
