Techy Geeky Stuff

I’m not much of a tech geek, but I do like to tinker a little.

So if over the next few days this site suddenly looks weird it is because Hamo has been messing around with stuff he shouldn’t have.

One thing I have chosen not to put on this new site is a ‘hit-meter’. Watching your hit meter is a bit like counting your congregation, or comparing willy size. Its strongly ego connected. Like Gaz I considered giving blogging all away but maybe a change of perspective will do the trick instead.

So… if you would like to read then you are most welcome. If you don’t want to read any more then I probably won’t know…

For today I have some other writing to get on with, so that’s it from me for a little while.

Farewell Saint Gaz

My friend, blogging buddy and church planting comrade Saint Gaz has given up the blog.

SaintGaz

You can read about it at his site.

I have always enjoyed reading Gaz’s thoughts and hearing what he’s doing, but his reason for quitting is a good one and I have to applaud this bloke’s integrity.

Now we will just have to catch up more often and actually talk…

Typepad Psycho

The blog you are looking at is not what my blog normally looks like.

For some reason typepad has spat the dummy and completely reformatted on me. I have tried to re-publish but with no joy.

If this keeps up then I will be making the shift to blogger sooner rather than later.

Blog Policy

Like most bloggers I am interested in how many people read this thing – where they are from. their comments etc.

Lately it has fluctuated between 400 a day and 120 a day people reading and looks like it is on a downwards spiral in terms of reader numbers. Who knows why?… (maybe people have realised I write a lot of crap!) The overall average is 168/day (however that is measured) which still sounds like a lot of people to me!

Its been over two years now since I started this blog and a few times I have pondered giving it all up – and maybe I still will. It is time consuming and a little addictive. But for now I blog because I like having a place to air my thoughts publicly and receive some feedback and interaction. I blog for my own pleasure – which may sound selfish… but what the heck… I enjoy writing and sometimes I need a place to vomit my inner ramblings.

I read about 30 other blogs every day (via Bloglines) and have made some good friends thru blogging (weird I reckon…). I find reading other blogs keeps me in the loop of what is going on round the place and I also enjoy reading my friends thoughts. Sometimes I read other blogs – but only if I have time to burn.

The blogs I read most are those of West Ozzies – whether they are people I know or not. I also enjoy the blogs of other good thinkers in the area of church and mission, but I don’t read much else. There are plenty of other online sources for current affairs and other issues.

I may read your blog but I don’t comment a lot. Basically its a time factor. if I am inspired or really engaged I will comment. If not I won’t.

So if I do comment I am really interested!

I put links to the people I enjoy reading and to people I have met or who live near me. I am sometimes tempted to delete all links because it looks like a popularity contest and somebody always misses out. Sorry if you have missed out and think you should be included 🙂

Anyway that’s where its at for the Hamo blog policy…

Blah blah blah

Blog changes

If I weren’t such a cheapskate and consigned to the ‘basic’ level of typepad I’d probably change the colour and design of my blog about now. I like a change every now and then and I reckon its about time.

What I have done is add a few new links in the ‘other blogs I read’ section as well as updating my ‘books’ list.

What I hope to do is list the books I have read in 2005 and include a bit of a review of each of them. So far I have just read two novels and Yancey’s ‘Reaching for the Invisible God’ but this week I began three other books which also look promising.

I enjoy De Bono’s thoughts although this book already reads like ‘The Six thinking Hats’ revamped. Coaching with Spirit looks interesting, but I don’t sense we are talking about the same spirit 🙂 even though the author uses a capital S for Spirit and Daniel Goleman’s Primal Leadership is looking like being a great read if I ca stick with it.

I’ll let you know what I think once I finish them.

Introducing

Another new face on the local blog scene is Scott Vawser – an all round good bloke who will have plenty of interesting and probably humorous things to say.

Scott’s and my paths cross in many places and I have been enjoying getting to know him.

New Faces

I have just added two new faces to the blog list on the left – both west aussies.

Roo is a top bloke who is about to start up as a youth pastor at Coastal Christian Community and ‘otherendup’ is still choosing to stay relatively anonymous…

I have known otherendup for around 15 years, we have played basketball together, he is a big fella and another great bloke.

I won’t reveal any more!
