Blogging Mate

A mate from ‘hobbiton’ has decided to have a crack at blogging. He’s a good bloke and a very sharp missionary.

I think he might wish to remain anonymous so I’ll just call him ‘D’. You can see what he has to say here.

Local Legends

I’ve been reading a few new blogs again lately…

Its always good to discover local people who have stuff to say that is worth hearing.

One is Jules Birt, who was at our last Forge intensive. Jules is great guy and has been writing some really good stuff. It looks like he and a few of his mates will be planting a church next year and really encapsulating some of the incarnational missional principles we keep ranting about at Forge.

The other is this bloke who seems to want to stay anonymous… so I won’t reveal his identity! He is involved with a church near us and is another great leader around this city. A quote from his blog… “Evangelical Christianity doesn’t believe in winter … it’s against our religion.”

They haven’t blogged for a few days now so get over to their sites and tell them to get a wriggle on!

Onya Daz!

Its been great to stay in touch with the Olympics thru Darren’s blog. He gets the headlines up and a short bit of news for each post.

There is so much going on that it feels overwhelming to follow it all. I can’t imagine how it is to collate the stuff!

Its been a great idea Daz and for me it’s at least a 3 x daily read. (Don’t forget to spend some time with that lovely wife of yours though mate!)

3 New Blogs

Check the sidebar for 3 new blogs that I have been reading lately – all local Perth people.

1. SaintGaz – one of our Forge interns who has just started planting a church called Myriad. A top bloke having a crack at something very adventurous.

2. Phil Baker – senior pastor of the Riverview Church, the biggest church in Perth. Phil’s blog is a real mix of current affairs, spirituality and trivia. (Yes… an ’emerging church’ pastor linking to a megachurch pastor… get over it those who are ‘anti-big’!…)

3. Lionfish – local bloke who surfs and attends Riverview church. That’s about all I know of LF.

I find I tend to read local blogs as often as some of my favourites (you know who you are!) simply because we live in the same backyard.

And the Winner is!…

Michelle, closely followed by Justin.

When I came back to my bloglines feed and checked the number of posts to read from each person on there Michelle topped out with 39 in the the last 14 days and Justin had 34. Lotsa writing from these guys!!

Of course where there are winners there are loooosers and my good mate Gaz , one of the current crop of Forge interns is the one to let the side down with just one miserable post in the last fortnight. I know you’re going to blame it on the new job Gaz, but that’s pretty lame mate. Priorities!

Surprisingly Phil and Dan only had 6 posts the whole time I was gone. Looks like life is speeding up with that new church building up hey Phil?

Darren download escape from l a dvd , normally a pretty high output guy, had a decent 20 posts, but that’s probably because he also had 20 posts on his other 13 blogs!

Another surprise (if my stats are right) is that Luke has pulled his blogging finger out and is at it again – 24 posts in 2 weeks is a pretty good effort for a young lawyer.

Now that I’ve collated the stats I might read what some of you have to say!

New Locals

Over the weekend I have bumped into a couple of new faces on the blog scene.

Lionfish download omen iv the awakening has been a regular at Phil Baker’s blog for a while now and has recently started his own. He must be a top bloke because he’s over 30 and still surfing…

And Shane Hubneris an Anglican priest who seems to be currently travelling the world explorig emerging church stuff. I’m looking forward to catching up with him when he returns.

My Boss Has a Blog

Yep – I have a ‘boss’ who now blogs also!

One of the convoluted situations I find myself in is that I work as the director of Forge WA, but to do that I am employed by Scripture Union (long story!) where the guy who is in charge of me is Dave Boldy. Poor bugger, having to look after me!!

He’s just started recording some of his thoughts here. Check it out and say g’day. He’s a good bloke!

Attention Seeking

My pondering where to go with this whole blogging thing has been a significant question for me. I enjoy it but don’t want to unknowingly (and unnecessarily) offend people – I’m ok with offending people necessarily!

To actually write about it feels a bit like ‘attention seeking’ – which I can assure you its not. I have appreciated the thoughts people have left – I too would miss some of the insights I have gleaned from others shared journeys.

At this point I will be continuing but probably with a narrowed focus and a tighter approach to screening what I write.download atonement movie
