For a while today I thought I was popular!
While at the Baptist Union meetings I checked my email and found one from an Aussie journo in London seeking info about two of my good friends who are missionaries in Malawi – John and Angie Wilmot.
I thought that was weird – why would they want to know about them?…
Then an hour later the phone rang and it was the ‘Today’ show and they wanted info about the Wilmots. The story began to unfold. If you haven’t caught it then basically it was said to involve Madonna and the Wilmots in a tug of war for the same little girl, with Madonna as the adoption ‘queue jumper’.
Shortly after Rod Olsen called and then the Sydney Telegraph… I had no idea the story was even happening, but after a few calls realised it was hot news.
Its amazing how easy it is to find someone on the net. It seems because of an article in The Baptist Advocate a few months back I have been connected with John and Angie.
And now for the truth – I do know them and they are much valued friends – but the story isn’t true. I had an email from John and Angie tonight stating that there is no ‘tug of war with Madonna’ but that they are pursuing the adoption of the girl in question. They explained the situation and how it got to where it is today, but the simple fact is that it aint true.
I guess it just makes better news if Madonna is fighting them!…
Sigh…
